Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 on Combating Rumours and Cybercrime

Full Text / Summary

Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 replaced the previous cybercrime law (Federal Law No. 5 of 2012). It covers: (1) unauthorized access to electronic systems; (2) disruption of information systems; (3) electronic fraud; (4) cyberattacks on critical infrastructure; (5) spreading rumors and false information online; (6) privacy violations. The law has extraterritorial application and applies to acts committed outside the UAE that target UAE systems or residents.
